Senator Bishop – Why Did You Vote To Deny Cancer Patients More Affordable Treatment Options?

Yet another place Senator Bishop Stands with Drug Companies and Special Interests…

Senator Dan Bishop has a long history of putting Big drug manufacturers and special interests before North Carolinians.

And it’s not just because  he doesn’t want pharmacists to be allowed to tell North Carolinians about lower cost drugs…

In 2015, Senator Bishop voted to deny cancer patients guaranteed access to oral chemotherapy, what one of his Republican colleagues called a “better quality of life.”

In fact, when Bishop opposed a bipartisan bill requiring insurance companies to offer the same coverage and co-pays for oral chemotherapy as low-cost intravenous chemotherapy, he voted against 104 of his colleagues, from both sides of the aisle, to do so. That’s right, once again Senator Bishop led a tiny minority of politicians to oppose affordable health care for North Carolinians. Classis career politician…

Senator Bishop’s opposition to this bill is particularly shameful because oral chemotherapy is more expensive to the point many patients cannot afford it. Now Senator Bishop needs to explain why he’s opposed to more affordable drugs for cancer patients, when his colleagues from both sides of the aisle overwhelmingly support it.

DCCC Spokesperson Cole Leiter released the following statement:

Senator Bishop’s record as a career politician has one consistent theme: if it’s good for North Carolinians he’s against it. This week it’s higher drug prices, who knows what’s next. The bottom line is that Senator Bishop has some explaining to do.
