SHOT/CHASER:  Two-Faced Carlos Curbelo Exposed… Again

Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo has a long history of saying one thing and doing the complete opposite, but boy oh boy, this one takes the cake.

After being pressed on This Week for his party’s failure to keep children safe in schools after the Parkland high school shooting, Carlos Curbelo touted the many gun safety bills he’s co-sponsoring, saying, “co-sponsorships are the most important currency in the Capitol.”

But here’s the catch — last year, when immigrant rights activists and his own colleagues pushed Curbelo to co-sponsor the bipartisan Dream Act, not only did he refuse to do so, he claimed “me signing onto that [bipartisan Dream Act] bill is going to have little, if any, effect.”

SHOT (ON TOPIC OF GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION): “Co-sponsorships is the most important currency in the Capitol.” – Carlos Curbelo, 11 /21/18

CHASER (ON TOPIC OF SOLUTION FROM DREAMERS): “Me signing onto that bill is going to have little, if any, effect.” – Carlos Curbelo, 11/14/17

So which is it, Congressman? Is your co-sponsorship the most important tool you have, or a gesture that will have little, if any, effect?

“If Congressman Curbelo thinks that co-sponsorship is the most important currency in Congress, then why did has he repeatedly refused to co-sponsor the bipartisan Dream Act ?” asked DCCC Spokesperson Javier Gamboa. “Instead of talking out of both sides of his mouth to avoid that day’s tough question, Carlos Curbelo owes an answer to all the DREAMers who thought he was working on their behalf. As his reelection becomes increasingly imperiled, Curbelo’s lies have become all too common, but it makes it no more acceptable.”
