Silence from House Republicans as Mnuchin Shields Corporations Who Took $500 Billion in PPP Funds

In May, House Republicans Voted To Block Transparency For PPP Program

As small businesses across the country suffer in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Washington Republicans are refusing to speak out against the Trump Administration’s decision to hide the identities of large businesses that applied for emergency loans for small businesses.

This week, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin informed Congress that the Administration would “continue to loosen the rules of the Paycheck Protection Program.. but does not ever plan on releasing the names of borrowers to the public,” proving that the Trump Administration will continue to put Washington-style politics ahead of the need to transparently protect jobs for hardworking Americans.

And let’s not forget, last month nearly all House Republicans voted against the TRUTH Act – bipartisan legislation that would guarantee full transparency of PPP funds and ensure relief actually gets to the small businesses that need it.

Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Fabiola Rodriguez:

“After an unprecedented and avoidable health crisis that’s claimed the lives of more than 100,000 Americans alongside the worst economic crisis in recent memory, Steve Mnuchin and Washington Republicans are dead set on looking out for their corporate donors instead of the mom and pop businesses struggling to stay afloat during this crisis.”
