“Republicans who objected to a Biden impeachment inquiry now say they’re fine with it” – NBC
Recent reporting from NBC details how vulnerable Republicans across the country are lining up behind MAGA Republicans’ baseless impeachment inquiry after having spent the summer downplaying the need for one – all because Speaker McCarthy and former President Trump told them to. It’s just the latest in a long line of examples of so-called moderate House Republicans doing whatever the extremes of their party want.
DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“There seems to be only one rule in the Republican conference these days: obey MAGA Republicans at all costs.”
Here are just a few of the vulnerable Republicans who chose party politics over working families and back their party’s sham impeachment inquiry:
John Duarte (CA-13): “I think that there’s been enough preliminary work here to absolutely justify going forward with an inquiry.” [Punchbowl News, 9/13/23]
David Valadao (CA-22): “I appreciate that Speaker McCarthy is prioritizing the need for an investigation, facts, and evidence. This inquiry makes all investigative tools available to Congress so we can determine the facts and get answers on some of the allegations against President Biden and his family.” [The Fresno Bee, 9/14/23]
Mike Garcia (CA-27): “There’s smoke there, right? So we have a requirement to go investigate that to see if there’s actually fire there.” [NBC, 9/18/23]
Don Bacon (NE-02): “If there’s a high crime or misdemeanor, well, let’s get the facts.” [NBC, 9/18/23]
Nick LaLota (NY-01): “There are a lot of questions that need to be answered. […] It appears the president’s family took tens of millions of dollars from foreign entities.” [The Messenger, 9/13/23]
Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04): “I am eager to find out exactly what the truth is behind the allegations surrounding President Biden and his family.” [New York Daily News, 9/12/23]
Mike Lawler (NY-17): “For months, House committees have been investigating alleged corruption involving the Biden family […] Today’s announcement by Speaker McCarthy is a continuation of the investigations that are currently open and ongoing.” [Press Release, 9/12/2023]
Marc Molinaro (NY-19): “When there’s questions or impropriety, it’s the appropriate responsibility of Congress to be the check and balance on the administration.” [NBC, 9/18/23]
Brandon Williams (NY-22): “Is Joe Biden a crook? The only way to know is to get the immediate and full cooperation of the DOJ, FBI and Treasury.” [Syracuse.com, 09/12/23]
Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05): “This is a momentous step, and it should be treated solemnly and without political maneuvering or grandstanding. Like all Americans, I want the truth to come out through a fair, dignified, and just process.” [Oregon Capital Chronicle, 9/12/23]
Jen Kiggans (VA-02): “I think there’s enough information that’s out there that wouldn’t be out there if Republicans hadn’t asked questions initially, but I think there’s some information that still needs to be found out.” [The Messenger, 09/17/23]
