Congressman Pittenger took to social media today to complain about how unfairly the press has treated his vote on the Republican repeal and ripoff bill. But there’s one key area he chose to ignore outright: President Trump and Washington Republicans are singularly responsible for triggering a 22.9% Blue Cross Blue Shield rate increase in North Carolina. In case you were wondering, that rate increase will affect 600,000 North Carolinians.
By putting CSR funding in doubt, President Trump and Washington Republicans recklessly created a crisis. Not only that, but according to CNBC reporting, “Blue Cross NC also warned that while it ‘intends to sell health insurance plans’ in all 100 counties in the Tar Heel State next year, the possibility of a Republican repeal of Obamacare ‘could impact whether or not Blue Cross NC can offer plans’ next year.”
“Robert Pittenger and Washington Republicans are singularly responsible for a bill that would result in 23 million Americans losing their insurance, strip protections away from folks with pre-existing conditions, and slap an age tax on older North Carolinians,” said Cole Leiter, DCCC spokesperson. “And not only that, they’ve spent the last eight years working to undermine a law that has brought the number of uninsured people in this country from 41.5 million to 28.5 million in under three years. Here’s our message to the countless North Carolinians Robert Pittenger has failed to serve: you deserve a Representative who will protect your access to health insurance, not put it in jeopardy over partisan Washington games.”
