| With less than a month until the ACA tax credits expire and New Yorkers watch their health care costs skyrocket, Mike Lawler is facing swift backlash for leaving thousands of his constituents without the means to afford health care or see their doctor.
Hudson Valley residents are hitting Lawler for “standing in the way of the only viable path to prevent this looming premium hike on New Yorkers” by refusing to sign onto a measure that would force a vote in the House to extend ACA tax credits for three years.
According to one Hudson Valley doctor, failure to extend these tax credits will result in “devastating impacts on health outcomes across the Hudson Valley, as people get sicker and even die from entirely preventable causes.”
Lawler has openly admitted that he wants to repeal the ACA tax credits, stating he wants to “phase them out.” Only four more signatures are needed to prevent health care costs from skyrocketing, but Lawler has refused to act.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler is playing politics with people’s lives. He knows Hudson Valley families are struggling with rising health care costs, but instead of standing up for his district, he’s siding with his big party bosses who want to dismantle the very programs that keep health care affordable. Lawler’s cowardice will cost lives, risk care for millions, and devastate the Hudson Valley.” |
