Spartz is Banking on Hoosiers Having a Short Memory By Delivering Opposing Messages on Health Care in One Election Cycle
Victoria Spartz just can’t help herself. In her latest TV ad, Spartz claims that she’s “worked to reduce health care costs” and “guaranteed protections for Hoosiers with pre-existing conditions.” But nothing could be further from the truth.
Here are the facts Spartz is hoping Hoosiers will forget:
- Spartz was one of nine votes against an amendment that ensured coverage for those with pre-existing conditions on short-term insurance plans.
- Spartz voted twice against ensuring insurance companies cover kids with certain pre-existing conditions.
- Spartz proudly stated that she “fought Obamacare” just earlier this year and promised to “actively support repeal and replacement” of the Affordable Care Act.
- Spartz’s plan would put 329,300 Hoosiers in the 5th District who have pre-existing conditions at risk of losing their care or being charged more, simply because of a condition like asthma, cancer, or diabetes, and 54,000 Hoosiers in the district would lose their coverage.
- Spartz supported President Trump’s move to not reopen ACA enrollment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spartz has already been called out for attempting to rewrite history on her stated support for repealing the Affordable Care Act from her primary campaign to the general election.
“This pathetic attempt from Victoria Spartz to rewrite her disastrous record of trying to gut health care protections and make care more expensive won’t fool Hoosiers,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice. “Her record is clear: time and again she’s supported efforts that would dismantle the health care system Hoosiers have come to rely on, even in the midst of a pandemic.”
