Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans Continue to Dismiss Antisemitism Within Their Party

Will Republicans hold Paul Gosar accountable?

Far-right extremist Paul Gosar used government resources to promote a fringe website that has denied the history of the Holocaust and defended Hitler. This isn’t the first time Gosar’s been caught directing his constituents to a website that has called the Holocaust the “the Holohoax” and praised Hitler as “a man of valor.”

House Republicans, from extreme MAGA adherents to their most vulnerable members, have refused to denounce Gosar’s antisemitic behavior – preferring to misdirect attention to others when it’s clear they are the ones responsible for spreading this dangerous rhetoric.

Just last week, House Republicans gave deranged conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a platform to spew hatred – days after he incorrectly claimed without evidence Covid-19 did not target Chinese people and Ashkenazi Jews.

REMINDER: Last year, House Republican Leaders failed to take action against far-right members like Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene who engaged in hateful rhetoric toward religious minorities. In 2019, Speaker McCarthy engaged in antisemitic undertones when he singled out three Jewish men – some of whom received pipe bombs in the mail as part of a scheme targeting prominent Jewish Democrats – in a now-deleted tweet that included a video, which Politico reported at the time, “invoked a stereotype about the Jewish faith that has long been considered to be an anti-Semitic dog whistle popular among the alt-right.”

DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice:
“How dare Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans – who consistently coddle far-right conspiracy theorists and hate-mongers like Paul Gosar and Majorie Taylor Greene – attempt to lecture the American public about hate when their own members regularly traffic in vile antisemitic tropes. It’s time for House Republicans – including their swing seat members – to condemn their colleagues for promoting dangerous conspiracy theories about Jewish people.”
