Following is the statement from Brandon Lorenz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on tonight’s debate in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District:
“Former Congressman Bobby Schilling can’t escape the simple truth: when he was in Congress he voted for a budget that protects tax breaks for companies shipping jobs overseas, and then callously turned his back and walked out on Sensata workers who had their jobs shipped to China. Congressman Schilling was fired by the voters once for putting the special interests and the wealthy first in Washington, and it’s clear that voters aren’t about to change their mind given Cheri Bustos’ record of working with both sides to cut wasteful spending and stand up for the middle class by protecting Medicare and Social Security.”
