Last week, Representative Elise Stefanik and her Republican colleagues decided that it was time for vacation and the House of Representatives adjourned for five weeks. The Republican-led Congress’ decision to skip town means a failure to find a long-term highway funding solution, reauthorize the Export-Import bank, or pass a bipartisan budget, which sets the country up for a potential government shutdown in September.
Instead of staying in Washington to get this critical work done, Elise Stefanik is hosting Republican House Speaker Boehner today at the Saratoga National Golf Club for a fundraiser where tickets cost as much as $1,000.
“Elise Stefanik has made her priorities abundantly clear: fundraising in Saratoga Springs with Republican House Speaker Boehner is more important than finishing some very basic parts of her job in Washington,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC.
“The Republican-led Congress has failed to pass a long-term highway funding bill, failed to reauthorize the Export-Import bank that benefits companies across Upstate New York, and has failed to negotiate a bipartisan budget. If past is prologue, we will be talking about a Republican government shutdown in a matter of weeks, thanks to Republican priorities and this very early August recess.”
