Ohioans face rising health insurance premiums and loss of protections for pre-existing conditions thanks to Chabot-backed lawsuit
In January, Congressman Steve Chabot voted to back a lawsuit that would repeal the Affordable Care Act without a plan for replacement, and on Tuesday Chabot doubled-down, telling Cleveland.com that “while I have not discussed the decision not to defend Obamacare with anyone at the White House, I support the decision.”
Chabot’s supporting a plan that would eliminate protections for 306,000 of his constituents with pre-existing conditions, explode the cost of insurance premiums and out of pocket costs, and charge older Americans an “age tax” for their care.
Even House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy thinks the Trump administration’s decision is a political disaster after the Republicans lost dozens of seats last November thanks to their war on American’s health care. But, Steve Chabot’s too blinded by the hundreds of thousands of dollars he’s taken in special interest money from insurance and big pharma interests over his decades in Washington to stand on the side of middle-class families and oppose this disastrous lawsuit.
“Steve Chabot is shamefully doubling down on his support for a lawsuit that will raise health care costs for middle-class Ohioans and take away protections from those with pre-existing conditions.” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “Ohioans deserve a representative in Congress who will stand on their side and fight to protect their health care – not someone like Steve Chabot who is deep in the pockets of the insurance and drug companies funding his campaigns.”
