Republican Congressman Steve Knight represents a competitive district in northern Los Angeles County where over 37 percent of residents are Latino. But Knight is poised to elect Congressman Paul Ryan, who reportedly promised he wouldn’t bring up immigration reform as Speaker of the House.
Knight has previously made hateful and disrespectful comments about immigrants and their families. Knight suggested that anyone advocating for immigration reform is doing it to garner more votes and opposes allowing DREAMers to serve in the military.
Knight also supported Arizona’s controversial “show me your papers” law and called immigrant families a “burden on the state.”
“Knight’s likely vote for anti-immigration reform Congressman Paul Ryan unfortunately comes as no surprise,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Families in California’s 25th District deserve a congressman who will fight for the issues that matter to them, including comprehensive immigration reform.”
