Still Plagued by Legal Fees, Schweikert Ends Yet Another Quarter in the Red

Scandal-ridden Congressman spent more than he raised in Q2 2019

For the second quarter in a row, Congressman David Schweikert is struggling to keep his re-election bid afloat.

Bringing in just over $200,000 in Q2 2019, Congressman Schweikert spent more than $300,000 – including nearly $250,000 in legal fees – in the same period. Meanwhile, Schweikert still has nearly $80,000 in mounting legal debt.

As Politico noted in April, “Schweikert’s growing legal debts demonstrate the challenges the Ethics Committee probe poses for the Arizona Republican.” Now, with more bills piling up and a House Ethics Committee into Schweikert’s potential misuse of tax payer dollars still ongoing, those challenges aren’t likely to fade any time soon.

“As a self-proclaimed ‘numbers guy’ like Congressman Schweikert will tell you, his campaign’s precarious financial standing speaks for itself,” said DCCC spokesperson Brooke Goren. “After the careless way Schweikert handled campaign and taxpayer funds in the past, it’s easy to see why Arizonans don’t want to donate to him, let alone re-elect him.”
