Today, the Supreme Court rejected Planned Parenthood’s challenge to stop states from systematically restricting access to reproductive health care made available through Medicaid.
Despite New Yorkers’ right to abortion being protected under state law, Mike Lawler has now been given a legal pathway to restrict New Yorkers’ access to reproductive health care.
The Court’s decision comes just weeks after Lawler and House Republicans passed the Big, Ugly Bill that would “defund” Planned Parenthood through historic cuts to Medicaid, shut down health centers, and undermine access to reproductive care.
But this is just the latest instance of Mike Lawler’s glaring hypocrisy. Last month, Lawler told his GOP colleagues that attempting to “defund” Planned Parenthood would be like “running into a hornet’s nest.” Twelve days later, Lawler happily cast the deciding YES vote to do just that.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Whether it be in the Courts or in the halls of Congress, Mike Lawler and extreme House Republicans are scheming behind closed doors to rip away reproductive health care for millions of New Yorkers. This out of touch extremism will not bode well for Lawler next November.”
