Fifth time’s the charm?
Like clockwork, career politician Karen Handel announced today yet another campaign – just months after being kicked out of Congress by Georgia voters. In addition to losing last November, Handel has lost races for U.S. Senate, Georgia Governor, and Fulton County Commissioner over her decades in politics.
When she’s made it into public office, Handel has lived large on the taxpayer’s dime, using taxpayer money to lease a Lexus SUV, travel on a private jet, and even spend $15,000 on office chairs in the midst of “the worst state budget crisis since the Great Depression.” With that track record, it’s no surprise then that Handel quickly sided with the special interests in Washington and put them and the super-wealthy ahead of what’s best for middle-class Georgia families.
Handel, for example, took $260,000 from big pharma and the health care industry, all while praising the Republican health care bill that would’ve raised health insurance premiums on middle-class families and instituted an age tax on seniors. And, Handel’s big donors couldn’t have been happier when she backed the GOP’s massive tax giveaway to specials interests the super-wealthy – even as it raises taxes on hard-working Georgians, adds $2 trillion to the federal debt, and ushers in an era of trillion-dollar deficits.
“Karen Handel has spent a career in politics looking out for herself and her special interest donors, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that she’s launching yet another campaign just months after being rejected by voters,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “Georgians deserve better than Handel, a career politician who has backed bills that would raise health care costs and taxes for middle-class families while living large on the taxpayer’s dime.”
