Every step of the way, Bill Huizenga has cheered on Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs. Huizenga said Trump’s chaotic tariffs are “a positive thing” – even as Huizenga admitted Michiganders would face higher prices thanks to tariffs he backs.
Huizenga “conceded his constituents in southwest Michigan may feel the effects of the higher tariffs” but continued to back them.
- HUIZENGA: “Is there going to be some adjustments to that? Absolutely. Is it going to be easy? Not necessarily. Is it the right thing to do? Absolutely it is.”
Now, Huizenga owes Michiganders an explanation as Michigan manufacturers are sounding the alarms and families’ costs are rising due to his reckless agenda.
What Huizenga-backed tariffs mean for Michigan:
- Huizenga-backed tariffs could increase American factory costs by as much as 4.5% and threaten Michigan manufacturing jobs.
- Howard Miller, a clock and furniture manufacturer based in Zeeland in MI-04, announced its closure last month after more than 100 years due to concerns over Huizenga-backed tariffs. More than 130 jobs will be lost due to its closure.
- Ford faces a “$2 billion tariff hit” thanks to Huizenga-backed tariffs.
- Kalamazoo businesses have discussed how prices are going up thanks to Huizenga-backed tariffs.
- Huizenga-backed tariffs are expected to slash UAW profit-sharing checks by thousands of dollars. Some Stellantis workers are at risk of receiving no bonus for the first time in nearly two decades.
- And Michigan is one of the hardest-hit states by Huizenga-backed tariffs – behind only California and Texas.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Bill Huizenga said himself that Southwest Michigan will be hurt by reckless tariffs – but instead of standing up for Michiganders, he backed these tariffs every step of the way. Huizenga fully supports sweeping tariffs that are causing businesses like Howard Miller to close, raising families’ costs, and threatening Michigan manufacturing.” |
