“Talks Like a Moderate And Votes Like a MAGA”: New Yorkers Call Out Mike Lawler For Rubberstamping Trump’s Agenda

“MAGA Mike has got to go!” chants rang out from the crowd as they criticized Lawler for being out of step with his district

Thousands of Westchester residents gathered this past weekend to rally against both the Trump Administration and their own far-right representative, Mike Lawler – who protestors argue has been a rubber stamp for Trump’s dangerous policies…and he has a voting record to prove it.

Some key moments where Mike Lawler fell in line behind Donald Trump and his MAGA colleagues in the past 6 months alone:

  • Lawler cast the deciding vote to gut Medicaid, increase costs, and rip food assistance away from New Yorkers to fund massive tax cuts for his billionaire donors and big corporations.
  • Lawler quickly took to national media to praise Trump’s tariffs, which will hurt New York’s low-income families most and raise costs on groceries, energy, cars, and much more.
  • Lawler voted to repeal green energy tax credits he spent months insisting he’d protect, raising energy costs, eliminating good-paying jobs, and forcing local business owners into early retirement.
  • Lawler supported a backdoor provision that threatens abortion access in New York and voted to jail doctors and nurses who provide reproductive health care.
  • Lawler co-sponsored Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America while millions of New Yorkers struggled to make ends meet.

Examiner News: Mount Kisco’s ‘No Kings’ Anti-Trump Protest Blends Patriotic Pride with Carnival Spirit, Calls to Vote Out Lawler

  • Thousands gathered Saturday at Mount Kisco Train Station for the “No  Kings” protest — a passionate, festival-style event where organizers created a carnival-like atmosphere to mirror what they called the circus of the Trump administration’s government.
  • The protestors’ anger wasn’t limited to the Trump administration. Many also focused on unseating Rep. Mike Lawler, the District 17 Republican representative.
  • Chants of “MAGA Mike has got to go!” rang out as attendees criticized Lawler for what they described as his too-close alignment with Trump’s agenda and being out of step with his district.
  • “We want Mike Lawler to understand that he represents this entire community,” co-lead organizer Alan Levy told The Examiner. “Mike Lawler typically talks like a moderate and votes like a MAGA. Eighty-six percent of the time he votes for the MAGA policies and that’s not what this district represents.”
  • Attendees at the protest expressed frustration with Lawler’s record, accusing him of breaking campaign promises and supporting policies they see as harmful to the community.
  • “I think Mike Lawler has lied to his constituents,” said protestor Pat Puleo, a public school teacher. “He said he wouldn’t cut Medicaid, he voted to cut Medicaid.”
  • “He voted to take $5 billion away from public schools and give them to charter schools. I also think he would support an abortion ban in New York State.”
