Touts endorsement from anti-choice group, reminder of opposition to equal pay, increasing minimum wage and strengthening protections for domestic violence survivors
As NY-22 congressional candidate (and Tea Party hero) Claudia Tenney touts her endorsement from a prominent anti-choice group today, it serves as a critical reminder of her long track-record of siding against Upstate New York women and families.
When she announced her run for Congress, Tenney had already set her sights on attacking Planned Parenthood – an organization that provides affordable, high-quality health care to over 30,000 women, men and young people benefit each year in Central and Western New York. Tenney also criticized the current retiring Republican incumbent for voting against efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.
“Tea Party hero Claudia Tenney and her extreme anti-choice views would set women in Upstate New York backward in time and negatively impact families,” said Meredith Kelly at the DCCC. “Tenney wants to defund Planned Parenthood, which provides critical health services to tens of thousands of women and families in Binghamton, Utica and across Upstate New York.”
In addition to her wildly out of touch views on women’s health, Tenney has also voted against equal pay for equal work, and opposes increasing the minimum wage, policies that would benefit working women and families.
Tenney even voted against the Women’s Equality Act, which would “codify a woman’s right to choose an abortion, attempt to reduce gender-based pay discrimination, and strengthen protections for survivors of abuse.”
“Whether it is restricting access to affordable, quality health care, opposing equal pay for equal work, or even opposing increasing the minimum wage, Claudia Tenney sides against progress for women and families at every turn. Upstate women and families can’t trust Claudia Tenney to stand up for them in Congress,” added Kelly.
