Republican Monica De La Cruz, failed congressional candidate in Texas’s 15th Congressional District, isn’t above lying to voters to try to win an election — like a few months ago when she failed an Associated Press fact check for spreading false information about COVID-19 vaccines. Now, she’s back at it again, but this time it’s the bipartisan infrastructure bill in her crosshairs.
Over the weekend, De La Cruz took to Facebook to claim that the bipartisan infrastructure bill would “… charge American Citizens a ‘Gas Tax’ per every mile driven, letting the Federal Government know where and when you drive.” This unverified claim has been proven false time and time again by nonpartisan fact-checkers, with USA Today writing, “the infrastructure bill does not include a ‘driving tax.’”
Texas is one of the states that stands to benefit the most from the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which would invest at least $30 billion to repair Texas’s crumbling roads and bridges, modernize the state’s aging electric grid, and secure stable internet access for rural families. While De La Cruz continues to lie about popular bipartisan legislation and the life-saving COVID-19 vaccine, Democrats are laser-focused on helping South Texas recover from this pandemic and getting our economy back on track.
“By all means, if Monica De La Cruz wants to campaign against creating jobs and repairing Texas’s roads, bridges, and electrical grid, we welcome her to that debate,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson.
