Texas Women’s “Medical Nightmare” Caused by Monica De La Cruz’s Abortion Ban

Today, new reporting from NPR detailed the true costs of the dangerous GOP abortion ban:

New, untested abortion bans have made doctors unsure about treating some pregnancy complications, which has led to life-threatening delays and trapped families in a limbo of grief and helplessness.

The NPR piece profiles a Texas woman whose wanted pregnancy took a dangerous, potentially life-threatening medical turn – but despite the best medical advice from her doctors, was denied access to an abortion and forced to “wait to get sick” because of Texas’s S.B. 8.

And a recent study reported by Dallas Morning News revealed that the Texas abortion ban doubled the risk of health issues for pregnant women.

As women face heartbreaking choices and unending obstacles to care, Monica De La Cruz supports the very abortion ban forcing them into situations dangerous to their health – a ban that is hobbling doctors and preventing Texans from getting the care they need.

“Monica De La Cruz supports an abortion ban with so few exceptions that it is forcing women into dangerous, even life-threatning situations,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “This is the real human cost of her extremist policies. Health care should be between women and their doctors, not radical politicians like Monica De La Cruz.”
