Thanks to Vulnerable Pennsylvania Republicans in Congress, Big Ugly Bill Moves One Step Closer to Law

Reminder: Fitzpatrick, Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry all cast decisive votes to advance Republicans’ budget out of the House

Now that the U.S. Senate has officially passed Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill, here is a reminder that vulnerable Pennsylvania Republican congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry are the reason why the bill was passed out of the House. Here’s what their votes could mean for Pennsylvania:

  • The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania said that Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill “will cause people to lose health care coverage and destabilize Pennsylvania hospitals and communities.”
  • North America’s Building Trades Union called the bill “the biggest job-killing bill in our country’s history.”
  • Energy and labor leaders across Pennsylvania have said that the bill’s cuts to energy tax credits could lead to “the loss of more than 4,300 jobs, and the closure of up to 20 current or pending factories in Pennsylvania.”
  • Governor Josh Shapiro – who carried all four of Pennsylvania’s competitive congressional districts by substantial margins in 2022 – made clear at a press conference yesterday that “the damage this will do here in Pennsylvania and across America is staggering and will be felt for years to come.”
