VOTERS DON’T WANT BRIAN MARYOTT
Voters have rejected Brian Maryott’s bid for Congress twice already. Even his fellow Republicans have stated their party is doomed with Maryott as the Republican nominee. Maryott is so desperate to redefine himself, he even lied about his occupation on his primary ballot designation; calling himself a ‘Certified Financial Planner’ – an erroneous title that California’s Secretary of State later forced him to correct. Maryott is eager to hide who he is because he knows he is running on a failed record voters will reject for a third time.
TOO EXTREME FOR MODERATE, SUBURBAN CALIFORNIA
Southern Californians continue to reject Brian Maryott because his positions are just too extreme for this district. Throughout his failed Congressional runs, he has promoted dangerous policies that would harm Southern California families. Marryott has fully embraced a MAGA agenda:
In his prior failed campaigns, Brian Maryott threw his support behind GOP plans to increase insurance premiums by nearly 18% in California, which would jeopardize health insurance for 47,000 people in California’s 49th district, impose an age tax on seniors and do nothing to lower the price of prescription drugs.
We know more tax hikes are on the table if Republicans retake majorities in the House and Senate this year. Republicans in Washington have made clear that they plan to raise taxes on millions of Social Security recipients and low-income Americans and sunset programs like Social Security and Medicare, threatening benefits to Southern California seniors that depend on these programs.
In another display of extremism, Maryott is not just coming for Southern Californians’ hard-earned pay – he is a threat to their fundamental rights. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s anticipated overturn of Roe v. Wade, Brian Maryott has affirmed his radical, anti-choice views.
A recent California statewide poll reveals Roe v. Wade is supported by Democrats, independents and Republicans, while experts predict reproductive rights will be a mobilizing factor among California swing voters this November. Mike Levin’s college-educated, suburban district will not take kindly to Maryott’s extreme MAGA stances.
PATH TO VICTORY
During the redistricting process, Rep. Levin’s old district remained 90% intact. In California’s 49th Congressional District, Democrats continue to hold a registration advantage and the district continues to trend away from Republicans. Since 2014 Republicans have lost 7 points in their registration share while Democrats have picked up 7 points. President Biden won this district in 2020 with 56% of the major party vote, a 12-point margin, which was a 3-point improvement from Secretary Clinton’s performance in 2016.
The demographic shifts in Southern California are only one factor bolstering Democrats. The biggest asset in California’s 49th is the Democratic candidate himself. Rep. Mike Levin has proven himself to be an independent leader in Congress; working with both parties to bring back tangible results for his constituents. With his health care slashing, tax-raising agenda, perennial candidate Brian Maryott just doesn’t have a platform that resonates with voters – a fact Maryott twice had the opportunity to learn. This November, the residents of California’s 49th District will reject Maryott’s toxic agenda once again and send Rep. Mike Levin back to Congress.
