The Case Against Dan Green

“Congressman Darren Soto has been a tireless advocate for Central Florida’s working families for his entire career – putting in the work year after year and getting results for his community. Dan Green is a far-right extremist that is only concerned with keeping money in the hands of the wealthiest Americans at working families’ expense. This November, Florida voters are going to reject Green and send Darren Soto back to Congress,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.

Subject: The Case Against Dan Green

Dan Green is just another rubber-stamp ready to roll over for whatever will make the D.C. elites and the wealthiest people in the country happy, even at the expense of Central Florida’s working families. Floridians need a fighter, not a selfish political opportunist trying to buy himself a ticket to D.C.

Darren has proven himself to be just that fighter. Ranked one of the most effective members of the Florida delegation, Darren shows up every day to work on behalf of Central Florida’s families and he isn’t afraid to reach across the aisle to get things done. Having brought millions of dollars back to Central Florida for disaster reliefcritical infrastructure projects, local agriculture investments, programs for small businesses, and more, Darren is a tireless advocate for Floridians and has repeatedly proven his commitment to fighting to make their lives more affordable.

Florida has been one of the states hit hardest by D.C. Republicans’ disastrous cost-raising agenda. Florida is now ranked the 3rd most expensive state in the country and Central Floridians are being forced to make “huge sacrifices” just to make ends meet. While Republicans gerrymandered Florida’s 9th Congressional District in an attempt to salvage their flailing House majority, Darren remains an incredibly tough candidate to beat: he has overperformed every top-of-ticket Democrat since 2020 and the district remains nearly a third Hispanic, predominately Puerto Rican, – a key constituency in this election where Latino voters are swinging back to Democrats thanks to Republicans’ failed agenda and broken promises. This November, Darren will continue his track record of overperformance and win reelection in Florida’s 9th Congressional District.

The Green-Endorsed Health Care Crisis is Hurting Floridians

Central Florida’s working families and seniors are being crushed under the weight of the Dan Green-backed health care crisis. Hundreds of thousands of Central Floridians rely on the Affordable Care Act for their health care needs, and thanks to Republican cuts to Medicaid and their failure to extend the ACA tax credits, more than 4.5 million Floridians are seeing their premiums skyrocket, not to mention the more than 1.6 million Floridians who are losing their health care altogether because they can no longer afford it.

This Green-endorsed crisis is hitting Florida’s seniors particularly hard with some Florida seniors having seen their monthly health care costs jump by 259% from approximately $700 a month to more than $2,600. For seniors often living on a fixed income, these astronomical rate hikes are existential. With Florida now ranked 10th among the most difficult states for seniors to make ends meet, and almost a quarter of Florida’s elderly population living under the 150% poverty line, some seniors are even considering living in their cars as the healthcare crisis continues.

Darren has been fighting for years to make sure that all Floridians can afford to receive health care. He cosponsored legislation to make the lifesaving ACA tax credits permanent and has supported initiatives that would ensure seniors on Medicare have access to high quality physicians and early cancer detection as well as policies that protect Florida’s working families from surprise medical bills. Darren believes that no one should go bankrupt just because of an illness or injury – and he is working to make that a reality.

Green Cares More About Enriching Himself and Fellow Multimillionaires at the expense of Working Families

It comes as no surprise that Dan Green is running to support D.C. Republicans’ cost-raising “Big Beautiful Bill”. With a net worth in the millions, he is one of the few Americans that actually stand to benefit from the law’s tax giveaways to the richest people in the country. With a seat in Congress, Green will be a rubber stamp for legislation that keeps him and his wealthy buddies rich at the expense of Central Floridians.

Darren went to Congress to make Washington work for working families, not billionaires and D.C. cronies like Dan Green. A staunch proponent of banning stock trading for government officials and their families, Soto is also fighting to make sure members of the government can’t make a quick fortune by swindling hard-working Floridians. He’s also fought to protect Florida’s seniors from scams, Social Security theft, and health care fraud. Darren wants to clean up the corruption running rampant in D.C. Dan Green wants to roll around in the muck.

Republicans’ Tariffs Are Squeezing Central Floridians Out of Their Communities – To Green, It’s All Working According to Plan

The tariffs taxes coming out of Washington, D.C. represent the largest tax hike in American history and Dan Green still can’t admit it’s what is causing Florida’s cost-of-living crisis. A little over a year after House Republicans celebrated “Liberation Day” the tourism industry that fuels Florida’s economy is down, the cost of everything from groceries to basic clothing is increasing, and small business owners across Central Florida are making the difficult decision to shut their doors. Perhaps the most impacted has been the construction industry where Green-backed tariffs have raised the cost of homebuilding projects by as much as 15%. Florida already faces a massive housing crisis – some Floridians are paying up to 50% of their income to rent and many are choosing to move away from the Sunshine State, citing the high cost of housing.

Darren is fighting to make it easier for working Floridians to make ends meet. Not only has Darren supported legislation that would increase the minimum wage, he’s cosponsored a bill that would permanently eliminate taxes on tips, going a step beyond the temporary band-aid D.C. Republicans slapped on the cost-of-living disaster they created.

Increasing housing affordability is also a core priority for Darren – and he has the track record to back it up. He’s backing policies that will make it easier for first-time homebuyers to afford to make the leap into ownership and fighting to take homeownership away from the Wall Street hedge funds manipulating the market and put it back into the hands of working class Floridians. Congressman Darren Soto believes that making housing more affordable for millions of Americans must be a priority in Washington.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“Orlando International Airport and Kissimmee Gateway Airport are receiving a combined $43 million in federal funding for infrastructure projects, U.S. Rep. Darren Soto announced Friday.

Soto said Orlando International Airport will receive $33 million through the Airport Terminals Program. Kissimmee Gateway Airport will receive $10 million through the Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program. The funding comes from programs created through the federal infrastructure law.

Soto said the funding will help modernize local airports as Central Florida continues to see growth in tourism and travel demand.”

News 6 Orlando: $13 million in FEMA funds awarded to Osceola County for flood control, wind protection [News 6 Orlando, 03/12/26]

“U.S. Rep. Darren Soto (D-Kissimmee) announced more than $13 million in FEMA funding for Osceola County infrastructure projects.

As the area recently saw historic flooding levels, officials say the drainage work will be designed to provide protection against a 50-year storm event. Soto said the improvements will allow increased discharges by addressing deficiencies in the existing system.”

“The U.S. Department of Transportation is providing Brightline with more than $33 million to add additional passenger cars to their trains. Central Florida Rep. Darren Soto, who announced the funding, says it will ‘meet increased demand and reduce traffic,’ while also being a cleaner mode of transportation for the environment.

Soto, who advocated for the funding, says the new train cars are being ordered and are built in California. As demand grows for the trains, he hopes it will alleviate traffic on busy roadways.”

Orlando Sentinel: Democrats to pump resources into keeping Soto’s imperiled Orlando-area seat [Orlando Sentinel, 05/19/26]

“The fundraising arm for Congressional Democrats plans to steer resources to Rep. Darren Soto, whose Central Florida seat is imperiled after Florida leaders transformed his heavily blue district into one that strongly favors Republicans.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said it has selected the District 9 race for its Frontline program, which funnels money and other support toward re-electing Democrats in Congress in competitive races. The organization announced last year it was prioritizing two dozen Democratic incumbents across the country in its effort to wrest control of the House of Representatives, and on Monday said it was adding Soto, “who consistently delivers for his district,” to the list.”

PATH TO VICTORY
After failing for years to defeat Congressman Darren Soto, Republicans attempted to subvert the will of Florida voters by redrawing their congressional map during the middle of the decade. Their plan won’t work. This new version of Florida’s 9th Congressional District holds nearly 60% of Darren’s current constituents and remains nearly a third Hispanic and predominantly Puerto Rican. As Latino voters swing back to Democrats due to Republicans’ disastrous record, Darren will continue to capture large vote shares with this critical constituency as Florida’s 1st Puerto Rican Congressmember.

And even as Central Florida has trended rightward, Darren has been a proven overperformer. He outran Vice President Harris by nearly double digits in the previous iteration of FL-09, including in all parts that were included the newly drawn district, and has overperformed every top-of-ticket Democrat since 2020. Darren knows how to win and while Republicans have spent the last months bickering over who would be a better lackey for Washington elites, he has been fighting on behalf of Central Florida’s working families to make life more affordable for them. This November, he’s going to prove Republicans wrong and the voters are going to send Darren back to Congress to keep fighting for them.
