Logan Said He Would Have Voted Against The Infrastructure Investment And Jobs Act. “On issues, Logan said he would have voted against the recent $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, which garnered only 13 Republican votes in the U.S. House. He complained that there had been ‘no report from the Congressional Budget Office on the impact on the deficit.’ ‘I think it is irresponsible to vote on a bill like that,’ Logan explained.” [Patch, 11/21/21]
2019: Logan Voted Against Creating Connecticut’s Paid Family And Medical Leave Program. “As a fiscal conservative, Logan voted in the Senate in 2019 against creating the state’s paid family and medical leave program that requires payroll deductions to fund the initiative.” [Hartford Courant, 7/26/21]
Logan: “I Believe That Bump Stock Bill Was A Bad Bill And It Was Just There To Agitate Those Folks Who Take Issue With It.” HOST: “When you were in the state senate, you voted against banning bump stocks and against a bill that would have prohibited guns from being stored in unlocked vehicles. Do you think that we need further regulation on guns, including an assault weapons ban?” LOGAN: “So, Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in all of the nation. I would consider myself a reasonable individual, so when you look at gun controls, which you failed to point out I did vote in favor of the ghost guns bill, I believe that firearms should be registered and they should have serial numbers to them. When it comes to bump stocks, I would challenge you – do you know what a bump stock is? Does anyone know what a bump stock is? At the time when I was voting for it, there was no one manufacturing bump stocks, you couldn’t buy bump stocks in Connecticut, so it really wasn’t an issue for Connecticut residents. And so for that reason, I don’t like voting for bills and issues just based on the title, and I believe that bump stock bill was a bad bill and it was just there to agitate those folks who take issue with it.” [YouTube, Fox 61, The Real Story: Fifth District Race, 7/24/22] (VIDEO) 2:50
Logan Said He Would Have Voted Against Creating The Select Committee To Investigate The Capitol Insurrection. [Fox 61, Interview with George Logan, 7/25/21] (VIDEO)
When Asked Whether He Would Support A Federal Background Check Requirement For All Gun Purchases, Logan Said: “Any Infringement On Our Second Amendment Rights Is Something I’m Very, Very Hesitant To Move On And Change.” HOST: “There’s nationwide support from many Americans to support background checks for all gun purchases. Where do you stand on that, and also, would you support a federal ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines if elected to Congress, George?” LOGAN: “So, here in Connecticut, we already have an assault weapon ban, if you will. Nationally, I would go to Congress and we would have a debate on that to make sure we define what an assault weapon is and looking at all those factors. Again, I would not take it lightly, and I am absolutely open to the discussion but we would have to have some good reason and real tight legislation to take a look at any further infringement on Second Amendment rights. It’s something I take very, very seriously. […] Any infringement on our Second Amendment rights is something I’m very, very hesitant to move on and change.” [Connecticut Public Radio, Where We Live, Interview with George Logan, 8/4/21] (AUDIO)
Lobbyist George Logan is against the interests of people of Connecticut. If elected, Logan will side with MAGA Republicans and corporations against gun safety, health care, and middle class families.
Logan’s Worrying Record on Guns
Logan is an anti-gun safety extremist who voted against a bump stock ban after the mass shooter in Las Vegas used them to kill 60 people at a country music concert. Logan justified his vote against this bill by calling it a “political stunt” that was a “symbolic waste of time.”
The next year, Logan voted against additional gun safety legislation, including requiring gun owners to safely secure their handguns in vehicles.
If elected to Congress, Logan has said he will be “very, very hesitant” to take any actions to support any gun safety measures, including an assault weapon ban, expanded background checks, and a ban on high capacity magazines. Logan went as far to say that there was no need for further gun safety measures in Connecticut, and that it was not guns but “other factors” that led to violence in America.
Logan Has Aligned Himself With Extreme MAGA Republicans
Logan has been backed by extremist Republicans in Washington whose agenda would devastate CT-05. His first vote would be for Kevin McCarthy to be GOP Leader.
Following the lead of MAGA Republicans, Logan has refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election fairly, saying it was ok for folks to question the process and results of the election. Logan also said he would have voted against the January 6th select committee and supported GOP leadership in kicking Liz Cheney out of leadership for defying Donald Trump.
Logan, whose MAGA supporters want to ban abortion nationwide, refuses to commit to supporting a bill codifying the protections of Roe v. Wade into federal law.
Logan and the MAGA Republicans would threaten the nation’s credit rating, threatening $30 billion in Social Security payments, 6 million jobs, and $15 trillion in household wealth while raising costs on families.
Logan and the MAGA Republicans opposed a bipartisan infrastructure bill to help rebuild the 248 bridges and over 2,154 miles of highway in poor condition in Connecticut, which cost Connecticut drivers $711 per year. In total, these Republicans opposed $5.4 billion to improve Connecticut roads, bridges, high speed internet access, and clean water access.
Logan would join a MAGA Republican caucus hell-bent on repealing health care protections for millions of Americans – Logan voted against advancing a bill to study a public health insurance option in Connecticut.
Logan and the MAGA Republicans opposed helping families and businesses recover from the pandemic. Logan’s GOP backers voted against swaths of aid to small businesses, including billions for direct relief funds for restaurants and other business owners in Connecticut. As schools worked to reopen and get children back in classrooms, this meant opposing over $1 billion in funding for K-12 schools and higher education in Connecticut.
Logan’s a Former Corporate Lobbyist Who Will Put The Interests Of Corporations Ahead Of Regular People
For more than 30 years, George Logan has held senior positions – including as a lobbyist – for the Aquarion Water Company, a public utility company that was purchased by Eversource Energy in 2017. Even as Connecticut families face rising costs, Aquarion and Eversource are working in lockstep to hike utility rates for working families. Just last month, Aquarion proposed a 27% increase in water rates that will cost families in Fairfield and Litchfield counties an extra $75 this year. Its parent company, which signs Logan’s paycheck, hiked electric rates by over 72% in the last year.
Logan did not resign his position from the company despite being a registered lobbyist on their behalf the year before he got elected, raising questions about who he was really working on behalf of at the Capitol.
PATH TO VICTORY
Having failed to win a single congressional seat in Connecticut since 2006, Republicans are going to have a hard time reversing their fortunes in CT-05. In this majority-suburban district spanning highly-educated towns from the New York commuter area to Hartford, President Biden improved on Hillary Clinton’s margin of victory by over 6 points. While Republicans tried to make a play at this open seat in 2018, Rep. Hayes won her first term with a commanding 55.9% of the major party vote – overperforming the top-of-ticket margin by a whopping 17 points – and she won an identical 55.9% two years later.
The largest town in the district, Waterbury, is Rep. Hayes’s hometown – where she overperformed President Biden’s margin of victory by over 10 points – and even after redistricting, Rep. Hayes is facing an electorate in which 100% of voters are coming from the old CT-05 and already familiar with everything that she’s delivered for Connecticut. With a 9-point Democratic registration advantage that has endured over the years, the voters of CT-05 will certainly reject George Logan and his MAGA Republican allies in November. |
