Elections are about choices – and the choice between Mike France and Rep. Joe Courtney could not be more clear. Joe Courtney has been an independent voice and champion for eastern Connecticut, passing historic legislation to improve infrastructure in the area and increase submarine production in the district. Courtney has been a brick wall protecting the rights of CT-02 residents, opposing the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, attempts to privatize Social Security, and radical GOP attempts to strip reproductive rights away from women. His opponent Mike France is a uncompromising MAGA Republican who has spent his time in the state legislature opposing bipartisan legislation to increase community safety, pay our police, and protect health care access. Most startlingly, France wants to ban abortion and has opposed increasing access to birth control. Mike France is too dangerous a risk for Connecticut to take.
Mike France is a dangerous MAGA Republican who will put his radical agenda over the people of Connecticut. He wants to privatize Social Security & Medicare, eliminate abortion rights and health care protections, and would stand in the way of gun safety measures. He’s wrong for Connecticut.
France Was State Chair of Organization That Wanted to Repeal Minimum Wage Laws and Privatize Social Security and Medicare – As He Supported Tax Cuts for Corporations and the Wealthy
For two years, France was the state chair of the radical American Legislative Executive Council (ALEC), which pushed to weaken and repeal minimum wage laws and privatize Social Security and Medicare.
While he showed support for attacking programs and laws that helped seniors and the middle class, France supported Trump’s tax cuts which cut taxes for the wealthy and corporations.
Mike France is a Dangerous Extremist
Mike France’s voting record underscores the threat he is to Connecticut families. On vote after vote in the legislature, France was in the furthest extreme minority opposed to popular bipartisan legislation.
France opposed the ACA, which protects those with pre-existing conditions and increases health care access and affordability across Connecticut. France has posted on social media numerous times about repealing the Affordable Care Act. If repealed, nearly 530,000 Connecticut adults with pre-existing conditions could lose their health care coverage, across the country 400,00 jobs could be eliminated, costs would increase even for those who are covered, and the deficit would rise $100 billion over ten years.
France is an anti-abortion and birth control extremist. France has been endorsed in the past by a group that supported Texas’s draconian abortion bill that puts bounties on anyone who helps women receive abortions. France wants to eliminate a woman’s right to an abortion. In addition, France has voted against making birth control more accessible and affordable and banning deceptive anti-abortion zealots from giving women misleading information about abortion and other reproductive health care.
Time and again, France has voted against the interests of Connecticut women. France voted against “Jennifer’s Law,” a “milestone” law giving victims of domestic abuse more tools to fight back against controlling and dangerous relationships before they escalated to violence. In 2019, France was one of few lawmakers to vote against the widely bipartisan “Time’s Up” Act that extended the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution of serious felony crimes like child sexual assault and required companies to provide sexual harassment training to all employees. He was even one of just 3 representatives to vote against requiring health insurers to cover 3D mammograms that detect breast cancer.
France has consistently voted against protecting children. He voted against advancing a bill to require background checks for youth sports trainers and coaches to prevent abuse against children. He opposed programs to combat youth suicide and was one of just 8 state representatives to vote against banning gay conversion therapy.
France has voted against laws to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals, felons, and children. France is an anti-gun safety extremist, pushing to ban municipalities from enacting gun safety measures. He voted against expanding Connecticut’s red flag law to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. He opposed banning untraceable “ghost guns” typically used to get around background checks by felons and people convicted of domestic abuse. He voted against multiple safe storage laws to keep guns away from children and thieves.
France has opposed wage hikes for police officers and allowing municipalities to pay out retirement benefits for first responders disabled in the line of duty. France voted against a resolution approving a pay increase for Connecticut state troopers and against a bill to allow municipalities to provide additional compensation to public safety employees who suffered permanent disability in the line of duty.
France has opposed widely bipartisan bills to protect the environment. France was one of just ten representatives to vote against authorizing the development of offshore wind in Connecticut and was one of just six representatives to vote against banning the storing and disposing of fracking waste in Connecticut.
MAGA Trump Supporter Who Pushed the Big Lie
France is a MAGA Republican through and through. He praised the former president’s remarks after the Charlottesville rally where Trump said “both sides” were to blame – one of the sides was Nazis, and the other was not. He opposed both impeachments of Trump despite Trump’s obviously inappropriate and possibly illegal actions. France pushed lies about the 2020 election to justify voter suppression bills and wouldn’t say if he would have certified the 2020 election. |
