The Case Against Scott Perry

“Scott Perry is a seditious, treasonous thug who has no business in Congress. Time and time again he has embarrassed and voted against the interest of Pennsylvania families. From his efforts to throw out their votes to overturn the election to voting against infrastructure and lowering prescription drug prices, Perry is a MAGA Republican that is too dangerous to remain in Congress.”

Subject: The Case Against Scott Perry

Perry, the leader of the ultra-right wing House Freedom Caucus, is one of the most loathsome, despicable members of the House Republican conference – and he’s in a swing district. Over and over again Perry has not only brought shame and embarrassment to the 10th, he has voted against their interests.

In Congress, Perry has spread racist, neo-Nazi conspiracy theories as he calls anyone who opposes him a Nazi. He was a key figure in the efforts to throw out millions of votes to overturn the 2020 presidential election, even endorsing a plan to send a mob to the Capitol.  He’s spread conspiracy theories described as “pure insanity” by former fellow Republican officials as he seeks to turn America into a right-wing cesspool of hatred, bigotry, and nonsense.

But Perry hasn’t stopped at just attacking our Democracy and spreading conspiracies, he’s also turned his back on those he represents. As Pennsylvania families, children and businesses struggled to recover from the pandemic, Perry voted against them. He voted against bipartisan measures to improve Pennsylvania’s roads, bridges, and infrastructure. He voted against helping businesses survive the pandemic, cutting middle class taxes, and rebuilding Pennsylvania’s economy.

Scott Perry will always put his right-wing agenda over the people of Pennsylvania.

Perry Voted Against The Women’s Health Protection Act. In September 2021, Perry voted against: “Passage of the bill that would statutorily establish that health care providers have a right to provide and patients have a right to receive abortion services, and it would prohibit certain restrictions related to abortion services.” The bill passed by a vote of 218-211. [H Res 3755, Vote #295, 9/24/21; CQ, 9/24/21]

Scott Perry is a seditious thug who not only abandons the values of his district, he fights against them.

SCOTT PERRY IS A CONSPIRATORIAL, SEDITIOUS THUG

Perry, who has compared Democrats to Nazis as he pushes racist, neo-Nazi endorsed conspiracy theories about immigrants, is too extreme for this swing district.

Perry has embarrassed his district repeatedly, lying about vaccines, voting against honoring the Capitol Police officers who protected the Capitol on January 6th with the Congressional Gold Medal, voting against an anti-Asian hate crimes bill, and voting against bills to support NATO and preserve evidence of Russian war crimes during the war in Ukraine.

But most of all, Perry’s direct role  in the effort to overturn the 2020 election and send pro-Trump extremists to the Capitol on January 6th has been a disgusting shame to his district. Newly released text messages have exposed the lengths Perry went to overturn the election, where he pressured the White House and Justice Department to pursue insane conspiracy theories involving the British government, a CIA coverup, and Italian satellites that one former DOJ official called “pure insanity.”

Investigators of the January 6th attack have requested Perry answer questions about his role – he has refused.

PERRY VOTES AGAINST PENNSYLVANIA

It’s not just that Scott Perry is a conspiratorial extremist who sought to throw out millions of votes to overturn the 2020 election – he doesn’t give a damn about Pennsylvania.

Over and over again Perry had the opportunity to vote to help the people of Pennsylvania recover from the pandemic and he chose to vote against them.

Perry also voted against two bipartisan infrastructure bills that would help rebuild the more than 3,300 bridges and 7,540 miles of highway in poor condition in Pennsylvania that cost Pennsylvania drivers $620 per-year.  In total, Perry has voted against more than $18 billion to improve Pennsylvania roads, bridges, high speed internet access, and clean water access.

Perry voted against legislation that has spawned an historic economic comeback in Pennsylvania, creating a record number of jobs nationwide and taking the Pennsylvania unemployment rate from 16.1% at the height of the pandemic down to 4.9% (as of March 2022). The middle class tax cut in the bill benefited 1.4 million families in Pennsylvania and nearly 700,000 workers benefited from the tax relief as well.

To make matters worse, after Perry voted against swaths of aid to small businesses, including $28.6 billion for direct relief funds for restaurants and other business owners in Pennsylvania – after calling the legislation “monstrous,” “a media relations scheme,” “a farce,” and “wasn’t about relief at all.” – Perry took credit for helping small businesses through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund.

Perry has been just as bad on health care, pushing for a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act  which would remove protections for pre-existing conditions and remove health care coverage for 850,000 Pennsylvanians. Perry has also voted against common sense legislation to lower drug prices, like capping the cost of insulin at $35/month.

PATH TO VICTORY

The dramatic shift towards Democrats in the Harrisburg-York area should terrify out-of-touch extremist Scott Perry. Only four years after Hillary Clinton lost PA-10 by nearly 10 points, President Biden narrowed the gap to a 4-point margin, a larger improvement than in any other district in Pennsylvania. Governor Wolf and Senator Casey both carried the district in 2018, winning 54.8% and 50.3% of the major-party vote, respectively, in a year that saw Perry fail to adapt to his un-gerrymandered district and eke out a narrow victory. The MAGA brand to which Perry has clung has proven toxic in this majority-suburban district, providing a strong opening for Shamaine Daniels to defeat him.
