The Invisible Man: Cynical Tom Kean Jr. Continues to Hide From New Jersey

In 2006, Tom Kean Jr. famously hid in an elevator to get away from reporters:

After a few reporters got into an elevator with him, Mr. Kean added, “I am proud of both my record and my vision for the future of the country,” and then got off 40 seconds later — on the same floor. The elevator had not moved.

18 years later and with another federal election loss under his belt, Kean is playing the same cynical playbook.

The New York Times even did a feature on what political experts call his  “vow of silence.”

In the spring, Kean refused multiple requests to simply state January 6th was not “legitimate political discourse.”

On nearly every issue over the past year, Kean has avoided press requests, policy positions, and commenting on nearly anything. Instead, he hides behind  campaign ads, emails, and consultants.

Now in the home stretch of the campaign, Kean “has been virtually invisible, with no public speaking events.”

But if Kean won’t talk to Garden State voters, his ads have been loud and clear:

James Singer DCCC Spokesperson
“Tom Kean Jr. is the invisible man. He is a cynical, entitled career politician who has coasted off his father’s name for decades. His campaign to avoid the press and New Jersey voters only makes clear what we already knew: Kean is going to Washington to work for MAGA Republicans, not New Jerseyans.”
