“The Job Title is Representative, Not Rubberstamp” – DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene on How House Republicans Have Failed the American People

DelBene makes the case that a vote for Democrats is a “vote for folks who are going to stand up for a bright future, who are going to stand up to lower costs, who are going to stand up for health care […], who are going to stand up against a war that never had any plan or strategy.”

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene stopped by CBS’ “The Takeout” earlier this week to discuss what voters can expect from House Democrats after they take back the majority. DelBene spoke about how voters fed up with House Republicans’ failure to lower costs for the last two years are eager for new leaders who would fight for them, not be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s price-spiking agenda and rampant corruption. She stressed how House Democrats will restore the People’s House to its original role as an independent and co-equal branch of government that serves the people, not Donald Trump.

Also discussed was the DCCC’s recent move to invest over $15 million in the final full week across 49 competitive districts — including offensive targets like FL-07, NV-02, VA-05, and TN-05. As more Americans sour on Republicans, House Democrats are on offense, moving deeper into red territory, with our candidates building broad coalitions of support to power them to victory on election day.

See highlights from Chair DelBene’s visit to CBS’s “The Takeout” below:

“I think we’re going to hear across the country after, and definitely on Tuesday, that people are tired of the broken promises. They want folks who are going to stand up for them.

“Our secret sauce is our candidates. We have incredible candidates running in these districts, and these are folks who have crossover appeal who are talking to folks about what they’re going to do to stand up for them. You know, the title, the job title is representative, not rubberstamp, and folks are seeing candidates who they trust, who can stand up for them, who they’re going to elect to be their representatives, all across the country, including in districts that voted for Donald Trump by a wide margin.

“I think this is going to be a vote to end the disastrous policies of this administration and a vote for folks who are going to fight for their communities to build a strong future. So yes, it is rejecting what has happened from this administration, what Republicans have done, but it is also a vote for folks who are going to stand up for a bright future, who are going to stand up to lower costs, who are going to stand up for health care that has been gutted across this country, who are going to stand up against a war that never had any plan or strategy.

“Congress has the power of the purse, and we need a Congress that’s going to do its job as an independent branch. And we will absolutely do that when we have Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and a Democratic majority.”
