People with auto-immune diseases are facing a scary and dangerous reality as the GOP’s abortion bans go into effect and their war on women’s bodily autonomy wages on: patients in some states are unable to access their life-saving medication.
A key drug for auto-immune diseases like lupus, Crohn’s and rheumatoid arthritis – Methotrexate – is being denied to patients because it can be used to terminate a pregnancy. This latest revelation shows that Republicans’ efforts to ban abortion are already having unintended consequences beyond their crusade against reproductive care and are impacting access to life-saving medication that patients depend on.
DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla:
“This is a result of Republicans’ efforts to strip away a woman’s right to make personal health care decisions: people with auto-immune diseases are unable to access life-saving medication. The stakes of this election are clear.”
