“There’s Nothing To Negotiate Here”: Mike Lawler Says Republicans Should Not Return From Vacation To Reopen Government

When asked if he thought Republicans should be brought back to DC to negotiate, Lawler said “no”

As Hudson Valley families face mounting uncertainty from the Republican-led shutdown and stare down skyrocketing health care costs, Mike Lawler is doing what any ‘responsible’ leader would do in a crisis: skipping town and telling his colleagues not to bother showing up.

Yes, really.

Today during a CNN appearance, Lawler argued that Republicans should NOT be brought back from recess to negotiate a solution that reopens the government and fixes the health care crisis they’ve created. According to him, “there’s nothing to negotiate here.”

REMINDER: Lawler has also openly admitted that he wants to repeal the ACA tax credits, telling Fox Business he wants to “phase them out.” If Lawler has it his way, 140,000 New Yorkers could see their insurance premiums more than triple next year, while up to 80,000 New Yorkers are expected to lose health care coverage entirely.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler is so obsessed with decimating health care that he’d rather skip town and keep the government shut down than fix the health care crisis he’s created. Lawler can hide at home all he wants, but Hudson Valley voters will hold him accountable in 2026.”
