Thousands of Families in Iowa Begin Receiving Child Tax Credits, No Thanks to Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks

Child Tax Credit payments begin landing today, benefitting over 317,000 children in IA-01 and IA-02

Today, thanks exclusively to Democrats in Congress and the American Rescue Plan, families in Iowa will receive their first monthly Child Tax Credit (CTC) payment today, providing tax relief for working families.

The CTC, which was expanded and improved through the American Rescue Plan, will offer working families a lifeline and help secure a stronger future for the nation’s children, benefitting roughly 39 million households.

The monthly payments, which both Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted against, will start hitting bank accounts today, July 15. This benefit will:

  • Provide $300 per month per child for children under six years of age
  • Provide $250 per month per child 6 to 17 years of age
  • Reach nearly 90% of families nationwide to help working Americans cover the costs of childcare, prepare for the back-to-school season, and get parents back in the workforce, helping American families make ends meet.

Families that are considered non-filers are also eligible for the expanded credits.

DCCC Spokesperson Elena Kuhn

“When Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks had the chance to cut taxes for working families, they sided with party leaders and voted against giving Iowans critical tax relief. As Hinson and Miller-Meeks joined Republicans in opposing this vital aid to families, Democrats delivered.”
