Thousands of Families on Long Island Begin Receiving Child Tax Credits, No Thanks to Andrew Garbarino

Child Tax Credit payments begin landing today, benefitting over 102,000 children in New York’s Second District

Today, thanks exclusively to Democrats in Congress and the American Rescue Plan, families on Long Island will receive their first monthly Child Tax Credit (CTC) payment.

The CTC, which was expanded and improved through the American Rescue Plan, will offer working families a lifeline and help secure a stronger future for the nation’s children.

The monthly payments, which Andrew Garbarino voted against, will start hitting bank accounts today, July 15. This benefit will:

  • Provide $300 per month per child for children under six years of age
  • Provide $250 per month per child 6 to 17 years of age
  • Reach nearly 90% of families nationwide to help working Americans cover the costs of childcare, prepare for the back-to-school season, and get parents back in the workforce, helping American families make ends meet.

Families that are considered non-filers are also eligible for the expanded credits.

DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola

“Andrew Garbarino made a deliberate choice to deny expanded child tax credits for over 102,000 children in New York’s Second District. These credits will help lift thousands of children out of poverty on Long Island and across the country. Garbarino should be ashamed to have voted against this critical help for families.”
