Three Questions for Corrupt Carlos Ahead of Today’s County Commission Meeting

Report Calls Today’s Vote to Award Taxpayer Funds to Giménez Backers “Rushed”

This morning, Corrupt Carlos Giménez is going to feign neutrality as he recommends the Miami-Dade County Commission approve an up-to-$14 million taxpayer award that will benefit some of his top campaign backers.

REMINDER: Today’s vote on a taxpayer-funded monorail project is just the latest step in a process that has been marked by Corrupt Carlos’ shady dealings, including his off-books private meeting in China with the casino developer Genting before he invited bids for the transit project and a wiped burner phone to keep the meeting secret. Per the Miami Herald, Corrupt Carlos also teamed up with a top campaign backer and Genting lobbyist to kill a transit project which helped free up funds for the monorail project.

  1. Why is Corrupt Carlos “rushing” this project through and ignoring requests to delay the vote? Is it because he only has a few weeks left in office to continue enriching the special interests who have funded his campaigns?
  2. Given that taxpayer funds are on the line, why is Corrupt Carlos avoiding the “usual timetable of committee hearings and regular appearances,” especially since the monorail project could be the “most expensive in a generation”? Is it because he only has a few weeks left in office to continue enriching the special interests who have funded his campaigns?
  3. Forget our list of questions, why won’t Corrupt Carlos take into account the questions of the Citizens Independent Transportation Trust, which called the monorail process “rushed” so much that it “may further erode the public’s trust”? Is it because he only has a few weeks left in office to continue enriching the special interests who have funded his campaigns?

“As if an off-books meeting in China and a wiped burner phone weren’t enough, today Corrupt Carlos Giménez is rushing to further enrich his friends and donors with taxpayer funds on his way out the door,” said DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer. “Corrupt Carlos Giménez is a career politician who has never failed to use his office for political gain, which is exactly why South Floridians are already lining up to reject his blanket brand of corruption at the ballot box.”
