This summer, House Republicans had opportunity after opportunity to extend – and make permanent – the Affordable Care Act tax credits, which have helped millions of Americans afford their health care.
They refused.
Now, Congressional Republicans realize they face a political backlash if they don’t extend these credits. This fall millions of Americans will receive notice that their premiums will skyrocket – leaving them with the burden of paying massively more for health insurance or losing it altogether.Republicans know they are in trouble. Donald Trump’s own pollster advocated for a permanent extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits in an op-ed this week, making clear Republicans will lose the majority if they fail to act.
Realizing they are doomed, several so-called moderate House Republicans admitted they have failed the American people and attempted to paper over their disastrous vote for the Big, Ugly Law by introducing a temporary extension to Affordable Care Act Tax credits until after the 2026 midterms. But let’s be clear: this is nothing more than a political stunt for these Republicans.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Republicans are responsible for skyrocketing health care costs for millions of Americans. The phony moderates have nothing to run on and no meaningful accomplishments, which is why they are relying on a short-term band-aid to salvage their seats in Congress.”
