Albany Times Union endorses Josh Riley in NY-19 and Blake Gendebien in NY-21
The Times Union Editorial Board is officially endorsing Congressman Josh Riley for re-election in NY-19 and dairy farmer Blake Gendebien in NY-21, calling both “solid candidates in their own right, worthy of representing upstate New York in the nation’s capital.” The board said Riley and Gendebien understand what their districts need and will work to deliver it.
They argue Gendebien’s opponent, extremist Anthony Constantino, has made clear that his “primary goal in Congress will be following [Donald Trump’s] orders and deferring to his judgment” — warning that Constantino is running to be the president’s “vassal” and “represents everything that is wrong with his party.”
The board also delivered a sweeping indictment of House Republicans, arguing that they have “made it clear that their highest loyalties are not to the country and the Constitution.” The editorial points to illegal tariffs and reckless war with Iran that have cost families thousands of dollars while Congress held “ineffective, symbolic votes.”
Through all of it, the board says House Republicans looked the other way, and they urge Upstate voters to send a message to the “obeisant lackeys in Congress who have allowed [Trump] to run amok.”
