| Today, nearly 500,000 New Yorkers lost their health insurance thanks to Mike Lawler’s cowardly vote for Donald Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill, which enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in American history and gutted the federal funding that kept New York’s Essential Plan afloat.
New York health experts are warning that “this is just the tip of the iceberg” before the other impacts of Lawler’s bill kick in come January.

Lawler’s vote is also sending health insurance premiums through the roof across New York, with insurers hiking rates by more than 20% for 2027 and UnitedHealth seeking a horrific increase of more than 50%. For the average New Yorker, that means paying more than $2,000 in higher premiums next year.
REMINDER: Mike Lawler spent months promising New Yorkers he would protect their health care. Then he voted TWICE for the largest Medicaid cut in history, and when local hospitals and doctors sounded the alarm, Lawler accused them of parroting talking points and lying.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Today, nearly 500K New Yorkers woke up without health insurance because Mike Lawler prioritized Donald Trump and tax breaks for billionaires over the people he promised to represent. Cowardice has consequences, and Lawler’s vote for the Big, Ugly Bill will haunt him in November when New Yorkers reject him for his betrayal.”
