| Tom Barrett and Bill Huizenga have found a new political strategy this week: Let the people go hungry.
Starting November 1st, federal food aid will stop going to the American people because Republicans refuse to use emergency funds set aside by Congress for food assistance – effectively cutting off all federal funding for SNAP benefits.
While nearly 1.5 million Michiganders are at risk of losing SNAP benefits that help them put food on their families’ tables because Republicans don’t want to spend the money – even though it’s available – Huizenga and Barrett are refusing to get back to work.
REMINDER: Huizenga and Barrett already voted for the largest cuts to SNAP in history earlier this year, making Americans pay more for their groceries. Now, they are doubling down on their cruelty and holding this key program hostage that feeds Michiganders and keeps food affordable.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Tom Barrett and Bill Huizenga are on vacation while nearly one and a half million Michiganders are at risk of going hungry. Michigan voters will remember Barrett and Huizenga’s cruelty next November.” |
