Tom Barrett-Backed Tariffs Raise Costs and Threaten Michigan Manufacturing

Trump’s sweeping, reckless tariffs are threatening Michigan’s manufacturing jobs, including Michigan-based Ford, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that “[t]he automaker most reliant on U.S. manufacturing is among the hardest hit by tariffs.”

This comes as new analysis has found that tariffs are increasing U.S. factory costs and “could lead to stagnation of wages, if not layoffs and closures of plants.”

And Tom Barrett backed these tariffs every step of the way. Barrett has “defended Trump’s tariffs” and said he is “not ready to give up” on them.

Now, Barrett owes Michiganders an explanation about the tariffs he supports:

  • Barrett-backed tariffs could increase American factory costs by as much as 4.5% and threaten Michigan manufacturing jobs.
  • Ford faces a “$2 billion tariff hit” thanks to Barrett-backed tariffs.
