Tom Barrett filed another disappointing campaign finance report over the weekend, demonstrating yet again that his flailing campaign is struggling to persuade mid-Michigan voters and is unequipped to compete in one of the most expensive congressional races in the country.
In the third quarter, Barrett raised just $713,307. Now, in the final weeks before the election, Barrett is in danger of running out of money entirely. He has just $115,000 cash on hand — one of the smallest war chests of any candidate in a competitive race this cycle.
This is not the first time Barrett has delivered weak fundraising numbers. In Q1 of this year, Barrett “fell short” of his $1 million goal and raised less than half that.
Barrett’s weak cash position calls into question his ability to communicate with voters in the closing weeks of the campaign. Meanwhile, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin was one of the top fundraisers in the country last quarter, bringing in more than $2 million. She has $3.8 million in reserve, more than 30 times what Barrett has on hand.
“Tom Barrett’s dismal fundraising is another example of how his weak candidacy is no match for Elissa Slotkin,” said DCCC spokesperson Matt Corridoni. “Barrett’s extreme agenda – siding with special interests and banning abortion with no exceptions – is clearly not resonating with voters, and they will reject him at the ballot box this November.”
