| Last night, Tom Barrett voted *again* to shield Donald Trump from Congressional oversight on his sweeping, reckless tariffs that are raising costs for Michiganders.
The pivotal vote comes as a new report from the Tax Foundation found Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year. The cost is expected to rise in 2026 to $1,300 if existing tariffs that House Republicans voted on today stay in place.
This isn’t the first time Barrett voted to rubber stamp Trump’s sweeping tariffs. In September of 2025, Barrett voted to protect price-hiking tariffs, after doing the same thing in March of 2025. Last night’s vote would have shielded oversight until the Summer of 2026.
REMINDER: Barrett “defended Trump’s tariffs” and said he is “not ready to give up.”
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Tom Barrett votes once again to raise costs on hardworking families and undercut Michigan’s farmers, auto industry, and state economy. Barrett pledged to lower the cost of living on the campaign trail but has done the exact opposite. Promises made, promises broken.” |
