Tom Kean Jr. Is Silent As Gateway Construction Halts

The vulnerable House Republican’s statements have “made no specific mention of the man who’s responsible for the funds being held up.”

It’s official: Construction on Gateway is screeching to a halt, all because Donald Trump refuses to release federal funding unless Penn Station and Dulles Airport are renamed after him.

And what has vulnerable New Jersey Republican Congressman Tom Kean Jr. said about Trump screwing over construction workers, commuters, and the entire regional economy? Crickets.

NJ.com reports today: “Gateway is also already an issue in one of New Jersey’s biggest congressional races this year: in the purple 7th District, where Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. faces a tough re-election challenge. The suburban Central Jersey district is home to many commuters.” In response to criticism, “Kean did not respond.”

Reminder: During his failed gubernatorial campaign, Republican Jack Ciattarelli was hammered for his refusal to call out Trump on Gateway. Ciattarelli lost in a landslide. And just this week, former Governor Christie said that NJ Republicans refusing to break from Trump is a political liability.

Kean Jr. has refused to call on Trump to release Gateway funding, and now he owns the consequences.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Career politician Tom Kean Jr.’s allegiance to Donald Trump over the people of New Jersey will be a defining feature of his time in Washington and cost him his seat in November.”
