Tom Kean Jr. Votes to Protect Trump’s Tariffs

Late last night, Tom Kean Jr. and House Republicans voted against canceling Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Brazil which are partially responsible for coffee’s massive 20.9% price spike from this same time last year — the largest increase since the 1990s. In August alone, coffee prices rose 3.6%.

Following the vote, Congressman Don Bacon (one of only two Republicans to vote against tabling the resolution), said the quiet part out loud:

Now, POLITICO is reporting that GOP Leaders are scheming to block any congressional oversight and accountability into Trump’s sweeping tariffs — including on Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and other nations.

REMINDER: Recent polling suggests Trump’s sweeping tariffs are deeply unpopular with the American people, with just 38% of Americans approving and an overwhelming 62% of people disapproving – up from 59% in June.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Tom Kean Jr. promised to lower costs, but he voted to support cost-raising tariffs that are only making things worse.”
