Tony Vargas will flip NE-02 blue and help take back the House majority
Today, the DCCC announced that Tony Vargas has been added to the first round of its highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Vargas, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district.
“Nebraskans are ready for a leader who’s focused on delivering for them – not Don Bacon whose top priority is his own political survival,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene. “Tony Vargas has a proven record of fighting for working families: securing tax cuts, creating jobs, and protecting reproductive freedom. Tony will continue to stand up for hardworking Nebraskans when he flips this seat in November.”
The son of working-class Peruvian immigrants, Tony Vargas has dedicated his life to serving his community as a teacher, school board member, and state senator. In the state legislature, Tony fought to expand access to health care for thousands of Nebraskans, improve education, create good-paying jobs, and bucked his party to pass two of the largest tax cuts in Nebraska history.
Tony came within 6,000 votes of unseating Don Bacon in 2022 and has been building on that momentum this cycle, outraising Bacon and starting voter and grassroots outreach earlier than ever before. While Bacon prioritizes partisan infighting and sham impeachments in a district Biden won in 2020, Tony is focused on issues that matter to Nebraskans and on building the infrastructure to win.
