Too Extreme for Kevin McCarthy = Too Extreme for Kansas

Today, Kevin McCarthy unveiled House Republicans’ new agenda, revealing plans to ban abortion, block prescription drug price reform, and attack elections—but Republican candidate Amanda Adkins has already thrown her support behind a much more extreme plan.

Adkins, a longtime Brownback advisor, staked out a position to the right of Kevin McCarthy by endorsing a controversial budget plan proposed by the Republican Study Committee in Congress. She even posted the plan to her website, calling it “very solid.”

For every pillar in McCarthy’s extreme plan, Adkins takes it farther:

  • McCarthy: Block prescription drug price reform.

  • Adkins: End Medicare as we know it.

  • McCarthy: Ban abortion.

  • Adkins: Ban abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother and send doctors to prison for doing their jobs.

  • McCarthy: Cut spending.

  • Adkins: Cut Social Security benefits, end Head Start early education programs, slash Medicaid, eliminate clean energy incentives, bankrupt farmers, get rid of consumer protections and workers rights…the list goes on.

DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw
“If Amanda Adkins is too extreme for Kevin McCarthy, then she’s definitely too extreme for Kansas – plain and simple.”
