During last night’s town hall meeting, vulnerable Rep. Mike Coffman desperately attempted to dodge questions about President Trump, but he enthusiastically embraced Trump’s harsh anti-immigration policies that will tear Colorado families apart.
In case you missed it:
- Coffman proudly touted his vote with House Republicans to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on building a wall that is opposed by a majority of voters: “I did vote for the wall in fact, one point five billion dollars.”
- Coffman is following President Trump’s lead when it comes to immigrants, saying: “I think we need zero tolerance on illegal immigration” – opening the door to a harsh policies that will tear families apart.
- Coffman has long supported President Trump’s actions on immigration. Just today, President Trump announced his plan to “favor applicants who can speak English” echoing Coffman’s infamous exhortation for non-English speakers to “pull out a dictionary.”
“Congressman Coffman desperately tries to distance himself from President Trump when it’s politically convenient, but Coffman’s statements and voting record stand in opposition to Colorado’s immigrant families,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Colorado voters deserve an honest leader who will put politics aside, do the right thing, and stand with their diverse constituents. Mike Coffman is not that leader.”
