Last night, the twice-impeached and criminally indicted former president ordered House Republicans to force a national default during a televised CNN town hall.
COLLINS: Do you think the U.S. should default if the White House does not agree to the spending cuts the Republicans are demanding?
TRUMP: We might as well do it now, because you’ll do it later.
Economists point out that if our nation were to default, it would result in a job-killing recession and spur a stock market crash that would decimate retirement savings.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy and vulnerable House Republicans – who voted for the House Freedom Caucus-sponsored ‘Default on America Act’ – are silent on Trump’s dangerous and reckless orders.
DCCC spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Will vulnerable House Republicans stand up to Donald Trump and their MAGA colleagues – or will they continue to cower to Team Extreme’s desire to trigger a job-killing recession? The clock is ticking.”
REMINDER: House Democrats voted to raise the debt ceiling three times under President Trump – who said, “I can’t imagine anybody ever even thinking of using the debt ceiling as a negotiating wedge.”
