Response to recent bombings only highlight Trump’s recklessness
In the wake of this weekend’s attacks in New York, New Jersey, and Minnesota, Congressman Yoder once again finds himself in the shameful position of having to answer for Donald Trump’s utter lack of national security understanding or expertise. It seems there is nothing Trump could say or do that would shake Yoder’s commitment to him.
“Congressman Yoder has made it clear that he values party loyalty more than the safety of Americans,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “There’s no doubt that making Donald Trump Commander in Chief would make Americans less safe at home and abroad, but Yoder doesn’t seem to care. Frankly, Yoder’s devotion to Trump and Governor Brownback demonstrates a pathetic lack of independence and moral courage.”
This morning, Trump jumped at the opportunity to praise himself, despite the fact that key details about these horrific attacks remain unknown:
Huffington Post: “Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump patted himself on the back Monday morning for calling the weekend attack in Manhattan a ‘bombing’ before officials did. ‘What I said was exactly correct,’ Trump boasted in an interview on ‘Fox and Friends.’ ‘I should be a newscaster because I called it before the news’ … This isn’t the first time Trump has taken credit for predicting or diagnosing such an attack. Shortly after the shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, which left 49 dead, Trump infamously tweeted that he ‘appreciate[d] the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism.’”
Let’s remember Trump also claimed to know more about national security than Robert Gates:
Washington Post: “Donald Trump launched a series of fierce attacks against former Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Saturday. ‘He’s a nasty guy. Probably has a problem that we don’t know about,’ Trump said at a rally in an airplane hangar here. Trump attacked Gates on Twitter earlier in the day, calling him ‘dopey’ … ‘I am so much better at what he’s doing than he is,’ Trump said of Gates.”
He also claimed that he knows more about ISIS “than the generals do.”
Maybe that’s why 50 GOP national security experts said that Trump “lacks the character, values and experience” to be president and “would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.”
