While Trump And House GOP Ramp Up Dog Whistles Against Orange County’s AAPI Community, Young Kim Keeps Her Head Buried In The Sand

Perennial Candidate Young Kim Takes Months To Weigh In Against Racism By Her President And Party

As President Trump continues to trot out racist rhetoric and dog whistles against the AAPI community in order to use them as a scapegoat for his own reckless leadership and failure to act during this pandemic and economic crisis, one of his biggest CA GOP Congressional candidates and supporters, Young Kim, is continuing to bury her head in the sand.

  • In early March, when House GOP Leader McCarthy was called out for his racist rhetoric, Young Kim “declined to weigh in.”
  • In late May, Young Kim was asked again about the President and her party’s racist rhetoric during the pandemic, she again demurred in calling them out.
  • Now, after President Trump continued over the weekend with his racist tropes, all Young Kim can muster after three months of her party’s hatefulness is a hollow tweet. Kim’s lack of courage to speak truth to power is akin to Trump’s White House never apologizing.

Rather than standing up and speaking out these past three months against President Trump and the House GOP’s hateful, insulting and racist rhetoric that has escalated hate crimes against the AAPI community, Young Kim is silent to the rising forces of hate within her party.

“Instead of standing up and calling out the President’s hateful rhetoric for what it is – racist – Young Kim is hiding behind empty tweets. It’s clear Young Kim will always put President Trump and her party before the families of Orange County,” said DCCC Spokesperson, Andy Orellana. “Meanwhile, Rep. Gil Cisneros has been a champion in Congress for Orange County’s AAPI communities and leading the charge in confronting this hateful and bigoted rhetoric being hurled by Trump and the Washington GOP leaders backing Young Kim. Voters know this and will remember come November.”
