Today, Donald Trump’s contempt for America’s veterans reached a stunning new low as the Republican party standard-bearer made comments blaming suicide among veterans on them not being “strong” enough or not being able to “handle it.”

No really, he said that. When asked about veteran suicide, Trump said:

“When people come back from war and combat and they see maybe what the people in this room have seen many times over, and you’re strong and you can handle it, but a lot of people can’t handle it.”

This weekend Lloyd Smucker publicly doubled down on his support of Trump during a rally in Lancaster, making clear he is willing to put party over country by stomping for the most dangerous nominee in modern history.

“Donald Trump has insulted the millions of veterans who struggle with mental health issues – proving there’s no American he won’t insult, no group he won’t ridicule, and no line he won’t cross – and Lloyd Smucker is standing shoulder to shoulder with him,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC. “After standing with Donald Trump during a rally this weekend in Lancaster, it’s clear that Lloyd Smucker will stand behind Donald Trump at all costs.”
