| Professional gamblers were reportedly hopeful Donald Trump would address the giant elephant in the room while stumping at a Pennsylvania casino last night: that the Big, Ugly Bill hurts the gambling industry by taxing people on phantom income, money they don’t take home.
Of course, the President conveniently ignored how his policies are wreaking havoc on the gaming community – instead opting to downplay Americans’ economic concerns and call affordability a “hoax.”
The irony wasn’t lost on Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus, who’s spearheading efforts to reverse Republicans’ unfair tax policy. As reported by Casino.com:
Titus’ bipartisan bill, the FAIR Bet Act, would restore the gambling loss deduction to 100%. Titus is also working to lower costs for families by permanently ending taxes on tips and better protecting tipped workers’ income.
Nevada’s economy has taken a beating since Trump took office. Tourism is down, with many attributing the sharp decline to a drop of international visitors who are turned off by the Administration’s harsh rhetoric and policies, including tariffs. The state is also bracing for thousands of Nevadans to lose their health care and food assistance because of Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill.
DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Dina Titus is a champion for Nevada’s economy. After Republicans recklessly decided to tax people on money they’ll never see, Titus immediately went to work to reverse this disastrous policy. She’s looking out for Nevada, while Republicans look out for themselves and their billionaire buddies.” |
